0 Adam’s Weekly Video Picks – Vol. 9
Hmm, maybe I should call this one the Weekend Video Picks considering how late in the week we are, but this’ll do. This time, I have a special Minnesota-themed set of videos! I have a few from The Current and a special episode of My Drunk Kitchen that took place right here in Minnesota. Enjoy!
1. Rock the Garden 2013 Time-Lapse
Rock the Garden is a fantastic outdoor concert featuring big artists at the Walker Art Center Sculpture Garden. I wasn’t there this year, but this makes me wish I was. METRIC!
2. My Drunk Kitchen: Minneapolis Hot Dish!
Hannah Harto joins a Minnesota YouTuber (a friend of producer Caity’s, by the way) to make an episode with a bit of Minnesota flair.
3. Dessa Deconstructed: Breaking Down “Parts of Speech” – 89.3 The Current
This is a fantastic program about Dessa’s creative process, talking primarily about her new album. I really enjoyed hearing about the early stages – recording pieces on an iPhone and scribbling lyrics on scraps of paper. I learned so many facts!
There you have it! A little Minnesota pride/embarrassment for you.
Until next time…
0 Episode 66 – A recollection of Narnia and Easter Spiders
Good morning, listeners!
We’re glad that everyone survived everyone survived that whole Mayan end ‘o the world bit, and have transgressed into 2013 with us!
We’ve been pretty busy in the new year, having already taped TWO EPISODES in the first week, PLUS, we’ve released the tracks to the Buffering Christmas Party Karaoke Caroling! Make sure to follow us on Facebook or Twitter to get updates as to when new and bonus content is released!
Also, we’re looking to start a contest on our Facebook page, but we need to hammer out the details (and rules) before we can get rolling there. Stay tuned!
On to Episode 66! Adam and I had a great time on New Year’s Day with Kia & Zach Hammill (Adam’s sister & brother-in-law) in studio as we worked to recover from the previous night. Having survived the holiday season as a whole, we opted to take the Mic Check to remissness over holidays past, and some of our favorite memories. It’s a quick, but straight from the heart, Mic Check that you should check out.
(As an added bonus, we will be posting episodes on our site EARLY for you to check out before they head to iTunes, Stitcher, etc., so make sure to jump over to the Episode 66 page to take an early listen!)
Enjoy! And Happy New Year!
0 Episode 64 – Happy “Ocarina of Time” Episode!
(Get it?)
So Adam, Bennett, Frank and I had a great time this week in the Wheels Brewing Co Studio, where Bennett and Frank turned out to be a great pairing, due to their common bond over “League of Legends”. With Bennett joining for the first time, and Frank having not been on in ages, it was great to get a fresh perspective on how other people devour streaming media compared to the diet Adam and I follow consisting primarily of Netflix.
Since this is a late posting, you get a BONUS Bonus Track right now! We had a fantastic riff after riff Mic Check this week, roaming from 90’s TV on Nickelodeon to “Machete” to Christmas trees, and on, and on, and on. Lots of great laughs in that Mic Check.
We also taped an instructional audio clip tied to “Movie Bluff” so we no longer need to explain it in EVERY episode (this means more time for GAMES!). We’ll make a lot of noise (a la postings) when it is available.
Until then, enjoy the Mic Checks for Episode 64.
0 Episode 63 – The gang’s all here!
First, sorry for the delay. With today’s weather-related traffic, and technical issues plaguing the studio this week, it took a few extra minutes to get everything up and running.
The good news? Now you get EVERYTHING from this week AT ONCE! All bonus tracks, and the episode have been posted simultaneously to give you hours of entertainment while you avoid the Minneapolis roads during the first legitimate snow of the year. (To all those in not-so-snowy areas, I wish I was there)
As I mentioned above, we had a few tech issues this week with John Egan joining via Skype. It was the run-of-the-mill “signal cut out a lot” stuff, so we’ve learned our lesson for the second time, and will put all of our energy toward FaceTime in the future, if we opt to phone guests in.
But that technical issue gave way to an additional bonus track this week, so go listen to that. And, of course, we have our Mic Check available on our site. We talk about beer. Preferred beers, to be specific.
AND, if you enjoy the “Buffering …” Podcast, go vote for us on Vita.MN’s “Best of 2012” list for Podcasts. You can check out the list, and vote, here. Vote! Vote! Vote! We don’t need first, but we’d love to hit top 10 in our second year! Voting ends on 12/9.
0 Episode 60 – Sexy Bond & Vampire Deer!
Adam and I had a FANTASTIC time this week taping Episode 60 with Katie Best & Maianne Preble, where we discussed A LOT and NOTHING at the same time. Great banter, super funny, and somewhat saucy.
We can blame all of that on this week’s Mic Check, as we started on that foot, and never left it. We talk about “Skyfall”, sexy James Bonds, Bond pornos, car pornos, and so much more.
We did break away from the raunch with a few other conversations, but a lot of our mid-episode call-backs dealt with the fun and funny conversations. You can hear this week’s Mic Check by clicking here.
0 Episode 59 – We don’t discuss the election … mostly
Happy Thursday, folks! It’s time for this week’s Mic Check!
We had a fun time this week, especially since it was Election Day! Actually … we were all somewhat nervous, as many of the ballot initiatives and politicians we supported had reported “neck & neck” right up to election day. We knew it would be hard to stay away from it, so we do actually discuss the code we developed to convey results without bringing the election into it.
Otherwise, we’ve effectively (though not officially) done away with the Mic Check theme topic and/or question. We’ve worked our way to this nice even plane where we can just start riffing with our guests, and then we’re through the Mic Check without even thinking about it.
We bounce all over the place for this Mic Check, including, but not limited to, the following: “Avatar”, The Quadratic Equation, Star Wars, “Wreck it Ralph”, our Polling Places, Cheat Codes, and Family TV watching experiences (but not necessarily in that order).
Alright. You’ve read enough. Time to take a listen. CLICK HERE. ENJOY!
0 Episode 4 – The New Episode is Here!
Happy Friday, listeners!
We have a great episode this week! Rather than our usual focus on streaming video, we put a lot more focus on updates to the streaming music world, including Rhapsody’s battle to compete with the popular Spotify, MOG and Rdio, and MySpace’s plans to forge itself into the “Hulu of music”. We also discuss the return of “Arrested Development” as it moves into development, and where you might find it (after we recorded the episode, Hulu also threw its hat into the ring).
We also talk a lot about how we access streaming media, in terms of software, hardware, and preferred sites, which is usually dictated by our software and hardware.
This weekend, we’ll also release the statistics from each Leonard Maltin game, so you can see who reigns supreme in the world of movie trivia, and who needs to step up their game (You may be surprised). So keep an eye out for that.
We’re still working on getting some intro music for the show, but that will go hand-in-hand with our foray into the world of uploading our episodes to iTunes for your accessibility. We will still post bonus tracks on this site exclusively to keep you coming here, but regular episodes will be available for subscription soon!
Until then, check out the new episode!
0 Episode 4 – BONUS TRACKS & Stats
We warned you.
And even after this episode teaser, there’ll be a bonus Leonard Maltin game available on Saturday! ALL OF THE AUDIO FROM EP 4 TOTALS 2 HOURS! We are giving you a full extra hour of bonus material this week to keep you listening (and we still need to reschedule the RiffTrax of the new “Phineas & Ferb” movie (see Episode 3).
Plus, I’ve been doing some calculations, and I will have performance stats regarding everyone’s performance on the Leonard Maltin game since the show started, and I’ll be posting those on 10/9/11, so you have enough time to absorb the bonus game before I give away the ending. Once I post it, I’ll do a general call for statistic suggestions, to make sure I didn’t forget anything.
Until then, check out the Episode 4 Post Episode taping conversation! Click here!
0 Taping Episode 4
WAS AWESOME!
We had a great time with Matt Walstead and Katie Best on our show this week. Covered some news that’ll still be relevant on Friday, got into a big discussion about the availability of streaming media outside of the PC, and played an awesome round of the Leonard Maltin game!
To entice you to check out Friday’s episode, here is today’s bonus track:
