0 Episode 40 – Prom Groups & “Battle of the Planets”

  • 06/28

  • · Bonus Tracks

Happy Thursday everyone!

If you have not yet heard, the Supreme Court has upheld Obama’s health care law. I’m not going anywhere with this, but I thought you might like to stay informed. You can read about it here.

ANYWAY, here in Minneapolis, Adam and I had one fantastic time this week with our guests, Joel and Julia. We hadn’t seen the likes of Julia since my birthday shenanigans on Nicollet Mall, and we always enjoy having Joel around.

For this week’s mic checks, I mentioned that a great deal of “Reading Rainbow” episodes are now available on YouTube in full, which you can find here, and, from there segwayed into discussing what our favorite childhood TV shows are. It was a really open ended question, but it also created a fun discussion, since everyone had at least one show on their list that everyone else liked, or at least recognized.

You can listen to the new Mic Checks by visiting the episode page for this week. CLICK HERE to check it out!

0 Episode 39 – With [some] apologies to Jason Mraz’s hat

  • · Bonus Tracks

Adam and I had a great (but hot) week this week. No, no trips to the brothels of Minneapolis this week. It was just really freakin’ hot out, which means its really freakin’ hot in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio as well.

Originally, we did have another guest slated to join James Wheeler this week, but due to last minute schedule conflicts, Guest Coordination Producer Caity Shea Robertson jumped in to save the day! The four of us started off the show slow with a fairly chill Mic Check, while everyone got used to the heat, but it made for a great Mic Check none the less. Make sure to check it out, as you’ll learn about some great work being done through the University of Minnesota (and James Wheeler), as well as everyone’s favorite volunteering experiences.

You know … it’s still really hot in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio, so I’m gonna go cool off by the tower fan. Make sure to check out this week’s Mic Check, and stay tuned tomorrow for the NEW EPISODE!

0 Episode 38 – Textbook Schemery

  • 06/16
  • by Dan Whelan
  • · Bonus Tracks

We had A LOT of fun this week with Lola & Molly, especially their willingness to join our scheming throughout TWO post episode bonus tracks this week! (OK, so it may just be scheming through the first bonus track, and the Leonard Maltin game for the second bonus track, but, damnit, we had fun.)

If you heard the Teaser Track that was released released on Wednesday, you have a pretty good idea of what’s coming. If you haven’t, we rehash the discussion about the bassist, and opt to get creative (and somewhat improv-y). And the Leonard Maltin game is some great fun. Always fun to bring that game back.

So everything I’ve mentioned above, plus the Mic Checks, are available on this week’s episode page. If you click quickly enough, you can recreate the entire evening by playing them back-to-back-to-back-to-back. Check it out, and have a great weekend!

And make sure to check in tomorrow for a DOUBLE BONUS TRACK SATURDAY including a hilarious scheme and bonus Leonard Maltin Game.

0 Episode 38 – If the studio’s a-rockin’ …

  • 06/13
  • by Dan Whelan
  • · Bonus Tracks

Adam and I had so much fun with guests Molly and Lola that we opted to record a promo track to release before the Mic Checks, just highlighting one bit of a conversation we had.

BUT, just taking an excerpt from the episode itself was not grandiose enough for us, so, once the episode was over, we schemed and taped the track, which you can find HERE.

The entire scheming bit will be available on Saturday as one of the two post-episode bonus tracks. Enjoy! And stop back tomorrow for the Mic Checks and Friday for the NEW EPISODE.

0 Episode 37 – Pssssh … THAT’s not how you play Bach’s Trio sonata in D minor!

Happy Thursday, listeners!

Adam & I had a great taping this week, featuring returning guest Katie Best, and new guest Tom “Wheels” Whelan. We mixed it up a lot for this episode, including a round of the Leonard Maltin Game for your listening pleasure. We also had an interesting Mic Check this week, where we really didn’t stick to a specific topic/question/thing, but it worked well anyway. You can check out audio from this week’s taping by clicking HERE.

Otherwise, there’s not a whole lot to plug right now, but make sure to check back during Fourth of July week, where we’re going to have an episode consisting exclusively of games as we hang out at the Commons in Excelsior, MN while we wait for the fireworks to kick in.

Our producer in charge of guests also said to say we will be introducing a lot of new voices on the guest futon, but, of course, we always inter splice them in with experienced folk, so we’ll be expanding the Guest Sorted Episode List soon! If you want to find episodes featuring your favorite guests, make sure to check out that page so you can binge!

Again, you can find all of the audio from this week’s taping by clicking HERE.

0 Episode 36 – ” … and decrease the surplus population.”

Happy Friday all!

Adam and I had a great time this week, as we had Alex “AJ” Johnson back with us in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio, and with him was a familiar face we had not seen in a while: Peter Jurgensen!

Our mic check this week focused around a new concept vehicle that should be available for consumer purchase in 2014, called the C-1 (or Concept-1, according to Lit Motors). You can get the gist of how the car works by reading about it here.

From there, we discuss a collective hatred of traffic, and how so many motorcyclists come off as assholes and jerks (though not all of them).

You can check out this week’s Mic Check, as well as the episode track itself, by visiting this week’s episode page.

0 Episode 35 – WHERE’S THAT DAMN REMOTE?!?

Happy late Thursday night, y’all!

We have found our “Buffering …” Historian! That, and we have a Producer in charge of Guest Booking! And they’ve both been guests! Introducing Alex “AJ” Johnson as the new “Buffering …” Historian, and Caity Shea Robertson as our new Producer! Go team “Buffering …”!

We also had a great time in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio this week, hanging out with returning guests Eric “The Red” Fagerberg and Dave Wheeler. You can check out the Episode Page by clicking on the word ‘Episode Page‘, or you can just click here.

This week’s mic check question was in memory of Eugene Polley, inventor of the wireless TV remote, who passed away early this week. Make sure to check it, and the new episode AND a bonus Build a Title game by visiting the Episode Page.

0 Episode 34 – Where are my superpowers, damnit?!?

  • 05/17
  • by Dan Whelan
  • · Bonus Tracks

Happy Thursday everyone! Dan and Adam are back to their old hijinks by taping on a Wednesday again. Guests Dan and Jenn are also a part of a choral group that REHEARSES on Tuesdays, so it lined up well in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio.

It was a fun rambling mic check this week, letting everyone get acclimated to the new headphone setup that was not present last time Jenn or Dan was on “Buffering …”. This week’s topic? Dan talks about his Ear Candling experience, and his disappointment learning that he was not given superpowers as a result. From there, the conversation turns to what superpower everyone would want (other than flying, of course).

It also gets to the logistics of superpowers as a whole, and whether or not they’d be deemed ideal if you could not control whether or not they were active. Yeah, it gets into one of those mic checks.

Check out the mic check, as well as everything else taped this week, on the Episode page. Check it out!

0 Episode 33 – Hulk love Shwarma

  • 05/11
  • by Dan Whelan
  • · Bonus Tracks

Happy Friday everyone! It seems like it makes slightly more sense to post the Mic Check the morning of new “Buffering …” episode release day so you have something to listen to that morning, following by the episode itself in the afternoon. So here we are. And you can find this week’s page here.

Lots of improvements are happening at the Frank Oz Memorial Studio these days. We finally have a competent headphone splitter in house to allow everyone to listen … now we just need competent headphones for our guests. But Dan should have learned his lesson last time he ordered something off of eBay from China. Still … less than $8 per guest wasted. Could have been worse.

Still working on updating each Episode Page of the web site. But it takes a great deal of our time to go through each episode and bonus track to determine exactly what was discussed in order to create a proper description for the archive. Looks pretty sexy though. Haven’t you seen it yet? Really?!? Dan is working pretty hard on it. You should check it out by clicking here or here.

Either way, you should definitely check out this week’s episode, including our tribute to Don Hertzfeldt’s “Rejected”. You can find this week’s page here.
