0 Episode 24 – Kickstarting the N64 so You Don’t Have To …
We have gone OVERBOARD this week to make up for the fact that we didn’t have any Bonus Tracks for last week’s road episode. This week [dramatic pause/drumroll] … there are FOUR Bonus Tracks, and they’re all, more or less, centered around my use of Tax Refund money on N64 games and accessories. And pizza. … And Kickstarter.com.
Okay, so here’s the rundown for you of important stuff to check out that is referenced somewhere in the Bonus Tracks (which can be viewed by clicking anywhere I reference Bonus Tracks):
1) There’s a lot of N64 game play in the bonus tracks, but the best batch comes out on Saturday. Today’s releases are more ambient game play noises with the microphones conveniently on. In case you’re wondering, but not yet interested enough to check out the Bonus Tracks, we played Beetle Adventure Racing before the show, and Super Smash Brothers. Seriously. Saturday’s Bonus Tracks are awesome. Stay tuned!
2) Kickstarter obsession (with “Buffering …” relevance)! The studio is set to back two projects on Kickstarter: Ze Frank’s new show (if you’re not familiar with Ze Frank, check out his old vlog from 2006 & 2007. I recommend the Scrabble episode!), which has already hit 200% backing, and THIS. I’m not going to tell you what it is. Just click on it. It is AWESOME (*What, like a hot dog?*). The second project needs additional backers (at time of publication), and I don’t see how it isn’t at 1000% backing yet. Help out! Keep an eye out for Ze’s new show, coming (tentatively) in late March.
3) HAVE YOU CLICKED ON THIS YET?!?
We had a great time with Jack Lob and Eric “The Red” Fagerberg in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio, and know that you’ll DEFINITELY enjoy Saturday’s Bonus Tracks, so set yourself a reminder to come back!
Until then, I just found my keys that froze to the parking lot after Tuesday’s ice storm, so I need to thaw them out. Make sure to listen to tomorrow’s show on the Episode Archive, iTunes, or Stitcher Radio!
I went a little link crazy this week, but every one of them is worth it. ESPECIALLY THIS ONE!
0 Episode 22 – Birchard and other amazing names!
Happy Friday early morning, night owls!
I must start out by apologizing for the delay of this week’s Mic Check. Loooooong day today. Thirteen hours long day, but it’s right before a self-awarded long weekend, so I feel like I earned it and that you’ll understand.
Plus, this week’s Mic Check was worth the wait. We had a lot of fun hanging out with Dave & James Wheeler for the “Wheeler/Whelan Flour Hour (Featuring some guy named Adam)”, and we all learned something, be it about meat, murder, Presidents, or dogs that are actually robots.
Check out the Mic Check in the Bonus Tracks Archive, and stay tuned on Saturday for a very excellent post episode conversation and additional “Movie Bluff” game.
Some cool news to go along with this is that we are now available on Stitcher Radio! Listen to us along side other great podcasts such as “WTF with Marc Maron”, NPR’s “Wait, Wait don’t tell me”, and “Doug Loves Movies”, among others. Stitcher SmartRadio – The Smarter Way to listen to radio.
So check us out there, or find us on iTunes and make sure to rate us while you’re there! We have 6 so far and we’re going strong.
Summary: Sorry. Mic Check. Stitcher Radio. iTunes. Sleep.
0 Episode 21 – Authoritative Glasses
Our podcast is able to drink! (if episodes translated to podcast-years)
We had a lot of fun this week, with the most combined glasses count, and overall beard content sitting on our couch! That’s right, AJ and Jon joined us this week to wax philosophic over the Verizon/Redbox partnership, as well as OK Go’s new music video for “Needing/Getting”. I think this is the most organized and pundit-esque podcast we’ve put out to date. We sound so official.
One thing to check out (which we will extract soon) on this week’s Mic Check, is we explain the rules to Movie Bluff very succinctly, while making it relatable. I think we’re going to use that as the golden standard of how to play, for any new guests moving forward.
Right. Time to get back to work. Head over to listen to this week’s Mic Check in the Bonus Tracks Archive, as well as a mess of Bonus Leonard Maltin games, post episode conversations, and every other Mic Check we’ve done to date!
(And make sure to rate us on iTunes!)
0 Episode 20 – “Hoarders” & “Heart-o-grams”
We have new blood on this week’s episode! Not “on it” like evidence, but like a new voice. Previous guest (and Tom Hanks movie aficionado) Caity Shea Robertson hooked us up with Andrew Nelson, who plays music, does the occasional stand up act AND works the overnight shift at Target, so we had plenty to discuss with him. PLUS, Lola came back for another episode, decked out in green after unearthing a stash of St. Patrick’s Day gear. Two fantastic guests to have on at once.
We never really hit a specific Mic Check question this week (getting to the heart of this post quickly), but we cover a lot. If your high school ever tried to play match maker, or if you have watched, or are a, “Hoarder”, this is the Mic Check for you. And if not, there’s still a lot of funny stuff in there too.
Check out the Mic Check in the Bonus Tracks Archive and stay tuned tomorrow for a great episode!
Here’s a schedule of what to expect over the next few weeks:
This isn’t etched in stone … yet, so some of our guests may change
Episode 21 Guests: Alex “AJ” Johnson & Jon Schrader
Episode 22 Guests: Dave & James Wheeler
Make sure to check us out on iTunes and RATE US!!! (Preferably favorably)
0 Episode 19 – “Mr. Alda, please get off the horse”
(The alternate title for this post was “Get the video camera, it’s Keira Knighly!”)
It’s a BONUS-TRAVAGANZA!
… or Dan forgot to post a bunch of stuff last weekend, so now we have boat loads of bonus tracks for you! Let’s see what you’ve won:
1) A Bonus Movie Bluff game! That’s right! Jenn and Caity did not get their fill of healthy competition during the actual episode taping, so we did another round JUST FOR YOU! (And for us too!) You should check it out. Adam, Dan, and their guests are getting SO MUCH BETTER at this game that it really is flowing a lot more!
2) A BONUS Bonus Track! After Jenn referenced the Minneapolis Fringe Festival, Dan broke out a copy of a one act script he wrote and produced in high school that starred Adam. It’s not gold or anything, but Caity opted to give it a one-woman table read, giving each character a difference accent. We had a lot of fun just listening to something from ’04. Check it out!
3) Up to modern times! It’s this week’s Mic Check! Katie and Eric (“Kevin”) hung out on the futon this week with Adam and Dan, and, among other things, they discussed winter driving excitement (thanks to snow finally showing up in Minnesota)! If you want to see the road in Duluth Katie is referencing, click here. Plus, we had a discussion regarding the movies nominated for this year’s Oscars to warm up for the episode, and we got some great quotes and one-liners out of it (including the quote in this post’s title)! Definitely a great way to swing into Oscar season.
Here’s a link to all of the above clips in the Bonus Tracks Archive
Finally, Dan and Emily Dyess are going to make an honest effort to watch every movie nominated for Best Picture before the Oscars, so there’ll be some talk about that on future episodes. Stay tuned! And make sure to check out tomorrow’s episode!
0 Free Ad on WTF with Marc Maron!
Another free endorsement of our show! I noticed the pattern, but it was a bitch to get a screenshot since the app works really well. If you want to know the back story behind any comic, get the WTF app, and sign up for the premium access. It is an amazing library. You’ll find tons of recognizable names, and you’ll love the ones you don’t know too.
0 Episode 18 – The 18th on the 18th!
So we had no idea that it had worked out this way, but we just taped our 18th episode on the 18th! Hurrah for coincidences! I’m going to make this one short, because I have to run and get my car fixed before this weather actually escalates to a “winter” status.
This week’s episode was awesome to tape, and will be really fun to listen to, as our two guests, Jenn and Caity, are among the few who have recently listened to all 17 previous episodes, so they know what’s going on. A lot of our conversations were all over the place, but we never wandered so far off the path that we had to back track, so everything ran very smoothly.
Lots of bonus tracks this week (all of which I will remember to post on time), plus a double bonus track that may be posted on Sunday (depending on audio quality/the amount of time it takes me to edit) that you should definitely check out.
For now, here’s the standard link to the Bonus Tracks Archive so you can listen to this week’s Mic Checks, but stay tuned all through the weekend for plenty of content to keep you warm.
0 Episode 18 – Guestures
0 Episode 17 – Who Left the Door to Minnesota Open?!?
Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!
After all of this time in our mild winter, Minnesota has just been bitch-slapped by a cold front, but all was warm and comfy in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio, as we welcomed Dave and Maianne back from Georgia.
We’re still working to have a finalized show theme, but, for now, we have a placeholder, so feel free to soak that in. Otherwise, we have the format fairly well set in place, so we just get to continue having tons of fun each week, talking about streaming media (among other things).
Stay warm this week by listening to this week’s Mic Check, located in the Bonus Tracks Archive, and tomorrow’s episode! Make sure to also come back on Saturday, since we have a Post-Episode Conversation for you as well. The topic? I can give you a hint: “Sandwiches, and go. Go. GO. GO!”
