0 Episode 42 – Never getting up again
It’s true. The band Chumbawamba is no more. The group officially split this week, reminding everyone once more of a simpler time where we learned that, if you get knocked down, you should get back up again, and nothing can keep you down. Makes sense coming from self-proclaimed anarchists. But I digress.
Adam and I had a great time this week with returning guests Emily Dyess and Andrew Nelson, where we broke this news to everyone. No more new Chumbawamba singles. To bridge that to a Mic Check, I had everyone talk about their favorite words, based on their phonetics. But that’s not all, right Billy Mays?
That’s right. Before we got the Mic Check under way, we also had a great pre-episode conversation where we just let the recording program run as we discussed a mess of stuff, including the acquisition of Nerdist Industries by Legendary Entertainment, and the new rules that will be included in the new versions of Scrabble that will be released soon. As a part of the Nerdist discussion, I also introduced everyone to “Chris Hardwick’s All-Star Celebrity Bowling”, which is available on YouTube (and there’s a link on the episode page).
0 Episode 41 – 07/04/12 – Fourth of July Game Show!
Instead of doing a regular show this week, Dan & Adam take to the lake, and play a few games with friends while they wait for the Fourth of July fireworks. First, Dan hosts a round of the Leonard Maltin Game with Adam, Alex “AJ” Johnson, and Maianne Preble, and then he participates in a round of Movie Bluff with Katie Best, Emily Dyess and Joel Vollmer. During the Movie Bluff round, there’s also a concurrent air show (made up of one plane), plus some excitement from above. Plus, thy played Movie Bluff!
Taped at The Excesior Commons Park, Excelsior, MN on July 4, 2012.
0 Episode 40 – 06/26/12 feat. Julia Schmitt & Joel Vollmer
Julia and Joel join Dan and Adam to discuss, among other things, the streaming news that had occurred that week. It’s a lot of headline stories this week (each is worth an honorable mention, but nothing to write home about), but the four banded together to make it fun. Then, everyone gears up for a round of “Movie Bluff” (make sure to listen for the weirdest point ever awarded during a round of “Movie Bluff”).
Taped at The Frank Oz Memorial Studio, Minneapolis, MN on June 26, 2012.

0 Episode 40 – Prom Groups & “Battle of the Planets”
Happy Thursday everyone!
If you have not yet heard, the Supreme Court has upheld Obama’s health care law. I’m not going anywhere with this, but I thought you might like to stay informed. You can read about it here.
ANYWAY, here in Minneapolis, Adam and I had one fantastic time this week with our guests, Joel and Julia. We hadn’t seen the likes of Julia since my birthday shenanigans on Nicollet Mall, and we always enjoy having Joel around.
For this week’s mic checks, I mentioned that a great deal of “Reading Rainbow” episodes are now available on YouTube in full, which you can find here, and, from there segwayed into discussing what our favorite childhood TV shows are. It was a really open ended question, but it also created a fun discussion, since everyone had at least one show on their list that everyone else liked, or at least recognized.
You can listen to the new Mic Checks by visiting the episode page for this week. CLICK HERE to check it out!
0 Episode 39 – 06/19/12 feat. Caity Shea Robertson & James Wheeler
Caity and James join Dan and Adam to discuss the streaming news that had occurred that week. First, they talk about the release of the new Spotify Radio feature for the Spotify iOS app (and how they snuck in a discussion right before it’s release [last week’s episode]). From there, they also discuss storing media in the cloud, and the growing (personal) reliance on Wi-Fi. Then, everyone plays a round of Movie Bluff, and it’s a bit quicker prompted by the heat.
Taped at The Frank Oz Memorial Studio, Minneapolis, MN on June 19, 2012.

0 Episode 39 – With [some] apologies to Jason Mraz’s hat
Adam and I had a great (but hot) week this week. No, no trips to the brothels of Minneapolis this week. It was just really freakin’ hot out, which means its really freakin’ hot in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio as well.
Originally, we did have another guest slated to join James Wheeler this week, but due to last minute schedule conflicts, Guest Coordination Producer Caity Shea Robertson jumped in to save the day! The four of us started off the show slow with a fairly chill Mic Check, while everyone got used to the heat, but it made for a great Mic Check none the less. Make sure to check it out, as you’ll learn about some great work being done through the University of Minnesota (and James Wheeler), as well as everyone’s favorite volunteering experiences.
You know … it’s still really hot in the Frank Oz Memorial Studio, so I’m gonna go cool off by the tower fan. Make sure to check out this week’s Mic Check, and stay tuned tomorrow for the NEW EPISODE!
0 Episode 38 – Textbook Schemery
We had A LOT of fun this week with Lola & Molly, especially their willingness to join our scheming throughout TWO post episode bonus tracks this week! (OK, so it may just be scheming through the first bonus track, and the Leonard Maltin game for the second bonus track, but, damnit, we had fun.)
If you heard the Teaser Track that was released released on Wednesday, you have a pretty good idea of what’s coming. If you haven’t, we rehash the discussion about the bassist, and opt to get creative (and somewhat improv-y). And the Leonard Maltin game is some great fun. Always fun to bring that game back.
So everything I’ve mentioned above, plus the Mic Checks, are available on this week’s episode page. If you click quickly enough, you can recreate the entire evening by playing them back-to-back-to-back-to-back. Check it out, and have a great weekend!
0 Episode 38 – 06/12/12 feat. Molly Kamph & Lauren “Lola” Schauer
Molly and Lola join Dan and Adam to discuss the streaming news that had occurred that week. Their primary focus is on comparing Pandora to Spotify, and a Spotify app that has recently received $3M in funding, as well as gut reactions to music discovery and discography discussions. The quartet also plays a round of Movie Bluff.
Taped at The Frank Oz Memorial Studio, Minneapolis, MN on June 12, 2012.

0 Episode 38 – Hot Mess
(And, no, we are not referring to our guests as “Hot Messes”)
G’morning, everyone! Rather than bore you with jibber-jabber on this Friday morning, why don’t you listen to this week’s Mic Checks as you wake up and/or begin the work day. You can find it by clicking HERE.
And make sure to check in tomorrow for a DOUBLE BONUS TRACK SATURDAY including a hilarious scheme and bonus Leonard Maltin Game.
And stop back this afternoon for the new episode, which you’ll also be able to find by clicking HERE.
Enjoy!
0 Episode 38 – If the studio’s a-rockin’ …
Adam and I had so much fun with guests Molly and Lola that we opted to record a promo track to release before the Mic Checks, just highlighting one bit of a conversation we had.
BUT, just taking an excerpt from the episode itself was not grandiose enough for us, so, once the episode was over, we schemed and taped the track, which you can find HERE.
The entire scheming bit will be available on Saturday as one of the two post-episode bonus tracks. Enjoy! And stop back tomorrow for the Mic Checks and Friday for the NEW EPISODE.
